Nigerian lawmakers resolve leadership crisis

Members of the two factions in the Nigerian House of Representatives have now resolved their leadership crisis.
The lawmakers at a news conference in Abuja on Saturday, said they have buried the hatchet and the business of law making can now resume fully in the lower chamber.

But National Assembly Correspondent, Joke Adisa reports that the arrowhead of the Loyalists group was absent at the joint briefing of
both camps.

Key figures among members of the House of Representatives loyal to former Minority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila are flanked by some of their colleagues from the Consolidation Group, led by Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

The House had been in turmoil following Speaker Dogara’s failure to honour a letter from the party directing the sharing of the principal
offices.

It led to a breakdown of order and physical combat among members on the floor of the lower chamber, resulting in a hurried adjournmentt of plenary sessions.

In defiance to the party’s directive, the Consolidation Group insisted on the principle of federal character in the sharing of the offices, a
position the Loyalists camp faulted.

But after its failed bid to reconvey the House on Tuesday, the legislators here say every concerned individual can now heave a sigh of
relief.

They say the crisis which ravaged the lower chamber since its inauguration on the ninth of June is now over.

Two other key figures in the Loyalists group are also in tune with what is now known as the Dogara Equity formula

The legislators would not answer Reporters’ question regarding what now happens to the leader of the Loyalists Group. Femi Gbajabiamila who was the APC ’s choice of Speaker and Majority Leader.

When contacted on phone, neither Gbajabiamila nor the Spokesman of the group, Nasir Zango-Daura picked their calls for clarification.

It would be recalled that the Consolidation group had kicked against the allocation of any principal office to the South West or the North West, having produced the Speaker and deputy speaker.

To affirm its position, the group proposed Ado Doguwa, the longest serving member from the North West as Majority Leader, Pally Iriase as
Chief Whip, both from the Loyalists Group, while their deputies go to the Speaker’s camp.

Buba Jubrin from Kogi is designated to be Deputy Leader with Chike Okafor stands in as the Deputy Chief Whip.
