Nigeria Premier League to Resume on Wednesday
The Nigeria Premier League is set to resume on Wednesday, after the Nigeria Referees Association, NRA, agreed to suspend their strike and resume officiating duties.
In a statement from the Chief Operating Officer of the League Management Company, LMC, Salihu Abubakar, signed by the spokesperson, Harry Iwuala, and released on Thursday, it was revealed that the league would resume since the NRA expressed readiness to officiate matches.
The referees had declared a strike until the crisis in the NFF was resolved.
Abubakar said: “Consequent of the NRA readiness to officiate in matches, all Match Day 26,fixtures will hold on Wednesday, September 17 and Clubs of the Glo Premier League have been notified accordingly. We seize this opportunity to thank all stakeholders, especially our commercial partners and fans for their understanding.
“The disruption has made it inevitable that we re-jig the fixtures and dates which will now entail a number of midweek fixtures to make up for the lost time and enable us meet the Confederation of African Football, CAF, deadline for submission of representative clubs for continental club competitions.”
Presently, Kano Pillars tops the league after 25 weeks with 43 points while Nembe City sits at the bottom of the table with 24 points.
