Nigeria’s super eagles ended their trio of World Cup warm-up games with a 2-1 loss to USA on saturday night as Sunderland’s Jozy Altidore found his goalscoring form for his country.
The striker, who was without a goal in 2014, scored in each half as Jurgen Klinsmann’s side made it a hat-trick of wins after victories over Azerbaijan and Turkey while Nigeria had played draws in their two previous games against Scotland and Greece.
Altidore opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, finishing from close range after a deft pass from Fabian Johnson. Altidore blasted a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner for his second goal in the 68th minute. Victor Moses scored the only goal for Nigeria with a deserving penalty four minutes from time to make it 2-1.
Nigeria is placed in Group F with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Argentina and Iran and will play the first match against Iran on June 16. USA is in Group G alongside Germany, Ghana and Portugal.
