NFF Crisis: CAS summons FIFA over Chris Giwa’s Petition
FIFA has been given a deadline by the Court of Arbitration for Sports, CAS to respond to Chris Giwa’s suit.
Self-acclaimed president of the Nigerian Football Federation, Chris Giwa had written a letter to CAS to question FIFA for its “interference” in the federation’s internal matter, especially the election of a new board.
A member of the Giwa-led faction said:“I can confirm to you that we petitioned CAS on Friday and they in turn wrote to FIFA yesterday giving them until noon Swiss time to respond.”
According to Ynaija reports, CAS also wrote to the Confederation of African Football, CAF and the South African Football Association, SAFA to ensure Wednesday’s AFCON 2015 qualifier holds without hitches.
When asked why the letter to FIFA was not available to the press, Ynaija’s source said, “We are not under any obligation to make the letter public. CAS write to FIFA and copied us as the plaintiffs so its our prerogative what we do with our copy as showing it to the press would be akin to playing to the gallery.”
FIFA had threatened to ban Nigeria from international football if Chris Giwa and his group didn’t vacate the NFF Secretariat and allow the Aminu Maigari-led administration to return to office.
Before the deadline was reached however, the FIFA-recognised secretary general of the NFF, Musa Amadu settled into the office while nobody from the Giwa faction turned up at the NFF Secretariat.
