New Castle Trounce Chelsea by 2 -0 at St. James Park

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, was full of praises for his players, after they stunned Chelsea 2-0 at St. James Park in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Gouffran and Remy got two second-half goals, as Jose Mourinho’s men failed to take top spot, ahead of Arsenal’s clash against Liverpool.

After the match, Pardew said: “We had exerted so much energy in midweek we decided to be very cautious at the start. We perhaps let them have too much possession but we knew in the second half, with the three subs, that we could exert more pressure and that is what happened. The goal came at an important time for us.”

“We have a great spirit in the group. We have played well, we are together and this win is for Mike Ashley and all our Newcastle fans. I am pleased for the club, we want the local press to be on side with us and today was about giving as message to our fans that we are very much alive and kicking.

“We have no Europa League this year, we are going along nicely. We are probably thee points short of where we hoped but we are nicely poised.”

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho at the end of the match said, ” I didn’t like this performance. New Castle were much more committed than us- they were the best team”
