National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it had ordered the stoppage of salaries of two of its absconding officers wanted for allegedly conspiring with suspected drug barons.
The agency Chief Executive, Ahmadu Giade, who made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, said that the organisation believed in the rule of law.

According to the statement, the affected officers are: a Superintendent of Narcotics, Daniel Goska, and Chief Narcotic Agent, Ndubuisi Ughor.

It said the officers were last seen on duty on Aug. 7, 2015, pointing out that absenteeism from duty for 21 days was punishable by dismissal as prescribed by the NDLEA regulation.

It said the officers were declared wanted following their sudden disappearance after a drug suspect was nabbed with 74.4kg of narcotics at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

The statement said Giade had vowed to rid the agency of all undesirable elements in its bid to sustain the heat against illicit drug traffickers in the country.

The agency has taken necessary steps by stopping the salaries of the officers and declaring them wanted.

“Winning the war against illicit drugs demands that while dislodging drug cartels, we must ensure that members of staff comply with best practice at all times.

“Efforts are ongoing to charge the officers in line with the rules of engagement.

“The agency is moving forward and will continue to purge itself of undesirable persons who are deficient in discipline and integrity”,Giade said.

He stated further that no act of indiscipline and misconduct would go unpunished, stressing that the agency had made remarkable progress both in drug control and respect for the rule of law.

The statement said the officers had been found wanting for conspiracy, aiding and abetting one suspected drug trafficker, Dayson-Eddie Chukwu and three others held for unlawful exportation of 74.4kg of narcotic drug.

Giade, who reiterated the agency commitment to a drug-free Nigeria, called for support especially on useful information about the whereabouts of the affected officers.
