NCI DESCRIBED AS A VERITABLE VEHICLE FOR NATION BUILDING

The birth of the National Council on Information (NCI) and its continued existence has been described as a blessing to the Nigerian nation as it has succeeded in fulfilling the dreams of the country’s founding fathers.

Commissioner for Information, State of Osun, Hon. Sunday Akere said this at the opening ceremony of the on-going 44th NCI meeting at the Women and Children Development Initiative Foundation (), Osogbo.

According to him, the NCI which has its root from the New World Information and Communication Order (NWICO) has redefined the essence of the trend, availability, direction, balance and flow of information dissemination in Nigeria.

The Commissioner noted that Nigeria has produced good hands in large numbers who had traded their wares all over the globe. He however lamented that lack of equipment has remained the bane for home-based practitioners of information gathering and dissemination.

Akere therefore urged participants at the conference to come up with far- reaching decisions on communication and information development capable of imparting positively on the country’s march towards democracy and good governance.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan said the conference has the traditional responsibility to keep Nigerians adequately informed.

She affirmed that effective communication of government’s decisions polices and programmes in a timely and comprehensive manner will help to bridge the gap between government and the people.

eral Capital Territory and the 36 States of the Federation.
