Alago, Eggon leaders douse tension over Nasarawa murder
Leaders of Alago and Eggon people of Nasarawa State have doused tension which rose between Monday and Tuesday after the alleged murder of three men in Obi, headquarters of Obi Local Government Area.
The leaderships of Alago Development Association (ADA), and Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA), had called on their various people not to take laws into their hands in situations of crisis like the one that happened on Monday.
“We have continued to speak to our youths. Nobody takes vengeance.
Vengeance is of God. We have continued to plead with our people not to look back at what happened to us in Assakio, Obi and Odobu in September. What we want is peace with our Eggon brothers who we have lived for years with, and inter married.
“We have many Eggon people living with our people in Agwatashi, just near Obi. They have no problem. No Alago man has raised a stone against any of them. We must have to continue within this spirit of being our brothers’ keepers,” Ayewa said.
David Ayewa, Secretary General of ADA, said the incident was unfortunate, as he urged all Alago people, especially youths to be law abiding, and to embrace their Eggon neighbours as their own.
Also, Chris Mamman, National President of ECDA established the fact that his association has not rested since Monday, in talking to Eggon youths not to take laws into their hands.
“We have continually called on the government to live up to their responsibility for good governance. We call on security agencies to go after the perpetrators of the Monday murder, and bring them to book.
“As for we Eggon people, we will continue to speak to our people not to be provoked by any incident of such nature. We have lived with our Alago brothers over the years without any problem. We cannot allow peace to suffer between us at this time, when we need each other most.
The inter marriage that has happened between us over and over again would not have been possible if we are not good neighbours,” Mamman concluded.
