NANS mourns murdered female undergraduate in Ogun
…warns host communities
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State chapter has tasked the state command of the Nigerian police to ensure the security of students in the state following the brutal killing of one of its members, Miss Morenikeji Owolabi, an ND2 student of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) in Gateway Polytechnic, Sapade, Remo, Ogun State.
In a statement issued and signed by the Ogun state chairman of NANS, Ahmed Falola and the institution’s student union president, Adeyeri Adedamola, the student body urged the various student host community in the state to be more accommodating to the students.
The statement reads: “We condemn the intermittent butchering, slaughtering, and killing rituals that have become characteristics feature of some host communities to students. We believe student environment should be a warehouse of expediency and not a land of pandemonium
“We are charging all hereditary rulers which as we speak have been silent over the issue to ensure normalcy is restored and the culprits brought to justice before Nigerian Students from every nook and crannies in Nigeria invade this city with a purpose to demolish it.
“Over time, our silence on the inhuman atrocity of the host community has been deciphered into cowardice but we hope the registration of our displeasure this time would sound stringent warning to residents before we the students take laws into our hands.
The statement reads further: “The dismembered body of Miss Morenikeji Owolabi an ND2 SLT department student, has been discovered by policemen, her body was found in a shrine at Eposo-Akaka community, Isara, in the Remo North Local Government Area of the state. She is 21-year-old, she hailed from Ekiti State, but lived in Isara remo, She was lured to theshrine by a herbalist, Femi Awise, who is currently on the run.
“However, we learnt about the commitment and good work done by the Nigerian Police about discovery of the key suspects in the case which include an okada rider who conveyed Owolabi to the shrine, Adeyemi Ademolu; an apprentice to Awise, Omolaso Taiwo; Lateef Ali, Akinyemi Dare and Sokoya Wasiu.
“Our leadership hereby state it unequivocally that terror doesn’t cause the trouble of the world but trouble caused terror. We can’t fold our arms in silence and seeing our students being maltreated and oppressed. This shows how hostile, cantankerous and unfriendly the Host community to the institution is.”
