N80,000 Bribe: Court registrar bags 3-yr jail term

A magistrate’s Court registrar in Enugu State has been sentenced to three years imprisonment for demanding bribe from a suspect relation.JUSTICE REGINA NWODO2

The registrar, Anikwu Ifesinachi was convicted by Justice A. A. Nwobodo of Enugu High Court without an option of fine.

Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, arraigned the judiciary official on a two-count charge of demanding and receiving bribe of N80,000 from the relation of a suspect before he could process the warrant of release to the suspect.

The relation it was learnt complained to the ICPC official who in turn gave him marked money which he gave to the long throat registrar and as soon as he collected the money, he was arrested by operatives of the commission who thereafter charged him to court.
