N76bn Abuja CCTV scam: Police, ZTE, NCC, others under probe —EFCC

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced probe into the alleged scam in the N76 billion moribund police CCTV project, awarded to a Chinese firm, ZTE Corporation.
The complainant of the alleged scam, Mr Olugbenga Adeyemi has also been summoned to appear before the investigating team on June 18.
Adeyemi, a human rights lawyer had asked the commission, in a petition dated May 8, 2014, to probe and prosecute those involved in the alleged scam, in the face of the increased tempo of terror attack in Abuja and other places where the security cameras were supposed to have been provided.
Hwoever, sensing that the anti-corruption agency may delay the investigation or put on KIV, he went to Federal High Court in Abuja for an order of mandamus, seeking to compel the anti-corruption commission to act.
Justice Adeniyi Ademola, granted him leave to commence the process.
The commission, on hearing about the order responded, stating that it had already launched a probe into the alleged scam.
Those listed for probe on the controversial contract included the president, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Nigeria Police, Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria Communication Commission, ZTE Corporation and Nigeria Communication Satellite Limited.
The court, however, substituted the president with the attorney general of the Federation.
