N1.35 billion fraud: Court sends ex-Gov. Sule Lamido, sons to prison

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano on Thursday remanded former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido and his two sons in prison custody till Sept. 28 over fraud allegations and money laundering.
Lamido and his two sons around 9am Thursday were brought to the Federal High Court Kano in a coaster bus led by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives.
The ex-governor and his sons, Aminu and Mustapha were arrested in Abuja on Tuesday and were arraigned on Thursday for receiving N1.35 billion kickback from a government contractor.
The money was allegedly paid into accounts controlled by the governor and his sons.
Delivering her ruling, Justice Evelyn Anyadike ordered that the four accused persons be remanded in a Kano Prison Custody because the EFCC said they lacked enough facilities to accommodate them.
Twenty eight-count charge bordering on a number of alleged breach of trust by Sule Lamido, Aminu Sule Lamido, Mustapha Sule Lamido and one Aminu Wada Abubakar, were preferred against them.
Justice Anyadike adjourned the case to Sept. 28.
