My re-election based on my achievements, says Ajimobi
The Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, on Monday, said that his re-election campaign was based on record of unassailable achievements never recorded in the history of the state.
He noted that the forthcoming poll was another opportunity for the people of the state to choose between sustained peace and resurgence of violence.
The governor said this while unveiling his achievements to the electorate at Ibadan North West Local Government, in continuation of his re-election campaign.
The governor was received by a tumultous crowd of party faithful and supporters at Idikan and Ogunpa, where he met 49 associations.
The governor had earlier addressed community leaders, chiefs and head of Adebisi mansion; while he was also received by Christian, Islamic and traditional worshippers at the headquarters of Ibadan North-West LG.
The governor used the opportunity of his campaign visit to the LG to inaugurate the newly constructed one-kilometre Red Cross-Afonta-Dugbe road.
He urged the people of the state to be wary of the antics of governorship candidates, whose tenures, he said, was marred with violence and brigandage during their first tenure as governors.
Ajimobi said, “We inherited a state that was known for one day, one trouble. Murder, arson, violence and brigandage was the norm then. That was the situation eight years before I became governor.
“But, we have succeeded in bringing peace and development to Oyo State. I must caution our people to be wary of these harbingers of death, violence and destruction seeking to come back to rule Oyo State.
“The coming election is a contest between light and darkness; it’s between sustained peace and development and resurgence of violence and murder.
“Eight years before I became governor, Beere, Iwo Road, Molete and other areas were no-go areas, but that has become history now. Vote for me to sustain all these.”
Ajimobi mainatained that he remained an apostle of issue-based campaign, urging his supporters not to engage in altercations or verbal assault with any of his contenders.
Instead of this, he urged his supporters to ask the two former governors (Senator Rashidi Ladoja and Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala) who were also seeking re-election, to tell the people what their achievements when they first had opportunities to rule the state.
Specifically, he said the two ex-governors, who are the standard-bearers of Accord Party and Labour Party had during their tenure records of murder, arson, violent disturbances which he said epitomized their regimes.
The governor added, “Ask them whether they promoted religion or took steps that discouraged religious growth. At least one of them banned pilgrimage to Holy Lands, while the other only assisted pagans to perform holy pilgrimage.
“On my part, I promoted holy pilgrimage for spiritual rebirth and for the adherents to go to holy lands to intercede on behalf of the country. This is due to my firm belief that prayers can cleanse the ills bedeviling this country.
“I’m campaigning on a record of unassailable achievements. Be vigilant. Don’t let them come back and deceive you, because they have nothing concrete to flaunt as their achievements when they were governors. They have misused the first opportunity and it is a clear indication that they have nothing to offer you if they come back.”
The governor promised to extend his largesse to traders at Ogunpa market yet to benefit from the first batch of compensation paid to some of them at the weekend.
He added that the free bus services he introduced for civil servants and students, as well as Ajumose buses that charge only N50 even for long distances save at least N120,000 for each family annually, which they ought to spend on transport fare
