Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Tuesday said he was deeply saddened by the death of Mrs. Olabisi Olateru-Olagbegi – a passionate social crusader, women’s rights advocate and executive director of Women’s Consortium of Nigeria (WOCON).
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Senate President described the deceased as an activist par excellence with a passion for hardwork and outstanding commitment to the social-economic up-liftment of women and mankind.
His words: “The sudden demise of Mrs. Olateru-Olagbegi is shocking to me. She was very hardworking, dedicated and selfless. She was a strong voice for the womenfolk. I believe she will remain a shining example to every Nigerian who seeks a life of service and achievement.
“It is so painful that she departed when her services were greatly needed. Her contributions as a delegate to the 2014 National Conference are still very fresh in our memory. Her demise is simply a great loss to Nigeria. The human rights community in particular and Nigerians in general, will miss her,” he stated.
The Senate President extended his heartfelt condolences to the Olateru-Olagbegi’s family and the nation’s Civil Society on the death, just as he prayed that the Almighty God will grant Mrs. Olateru-Olagbegi’s soul eternal rest, and her family and everyone who knew her, the fortitude to bear the pain of her death.
