Mourinho wants Severe Punishment for Clubs that Break Financial Fair Play Rule
Jose Mourinho has called on UEFA to penalise clubs that break the Financial Fair Play rules by deducting their points and stripping them of titles.
The Chelsea manager insists the regular fine and squad restriction penalties will have not a big impact on rich clubs as it’s easy for them to survive without the fines.
Mourinho said in an interview with Portuguese broadcasters, TVI, ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester City: “Everybody knows there are fines and, if these fines exist, control exists. But are fines fair? I don’t think so. In my opinion the first thing is to remove points and remove titles.”
Mourinho also believes that clubs that fail to comply with FFP should be thrown out of the Champions League.
“If you have important capital which allows you to overcome the FFP; if you win titles and then you are fined economically, you keep doing the same thing.
“They will take from you one or two players from the Champions League list. Then, instead of 24, you go with 22. But if you’re stating that you will start the next Champions League with six points fewer, or you won’t play in the next edition of the Champions League and go into the Europa League instead, it’s more serious.’”
Earlier this year, UEFA punished Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Zenit St Petersburg for breaking the FFP rules, ordering City to pay a £50million fine and cutting their squad for this year’s Champions League down to 21 players.
