Monday Tragedy: Truck rams into market, kills 10
A pure water truck has rammed into a meat market (Odo-Eran), on Governors’ Road along LASU-Iba expressway killing at least 10 persons. The truck which was carrying bags of pure water for distribution reportedly lost control and rammed into stalls at the market which is not far from the road.
An eyewitness, who chose to be identified as Tunde, told our reporter that the driver of the bus lost control just as he neared the market. “I want to believe he lost control because there is no plausible explanation for this accident,” said Tunde who arrived the scene shortly after the accident had occurred.
The accident has halted vehicular along the road particularly for tricycle (Keke Marwa) riders who operate commercially from Ikotun to Governors Road. A Keke Marwa rider who spoke to P.M. News said it was a sad event because some of the people who died in the accident were friends of Keke riders.
“We have some friends in this silly accident. I have been plying this road for years and have never seen something this gory. This is a big tragedy for everyone at the market and for Keke riders too,” Isaac said.
A Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer who was controlling the traffic said that they could not ascertain the cause of the accident. “We have to investigate the crash because we were not here when it happened,” he said.
As at press time, a towing van had arrived the scene to lift the pure water truck
