Minister of Power, Barth Nnaji Didn’t Resign But Sacked
The former minister of power, Barth Nnaji who the Presidency claimed resigned his appointment was actually sacked by President Jonathan. In what seems to be a new trend in Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan who was not comfortable with the media reports linking the company of his erstwhile Minister with the bidding of Afam Generation Company Limited and Enugu Distribution Company Limited requested Nnaji to resign his appointment or be sacked.
The media Adviser to the President, Reuben Abati in a statement says, “President Goodluck Jonathan has accepted the resignation with immediate effect of the Minister of Power, 
. President Jonathan thanks Prof. Nnaji for his services to the nation under the present administration and wishes him well in his future endeavours.”
The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), had earlier called for the resignation of Nnaji for acts they claimed were capable of subverting the plans by the President to turn around the power sector. He was alleged to have received millions of dollars in gratification to favour some companies bidding for power generations in the country in addition to favouring two of his companies in the process.
A social commentator, Jide Adesegun, commended the President for taking this bold step. “If we begin to show incompetent and corrupt public servants the way out of office, we would have started a journey to an egalitarian society. On this one, President Jonathan has done well and I think he should be commended. He should sack the remaining inept people in his cabinet so that Nigerian people will take him serious. People like Diezani Allison, the Minister of Petroleum and her Aviation counterpart, Stella Oduah should follow Nnaji”, Adesegun said.
