Minister Engages Kano Manufacturers On National Clean Cooking Policy As He Plants 70th Tree In 2024 For “Greener Nigeria Campaign”
The Minister of State for Environment, Dr Iziaq Kunle Salako , on Friday July 5, 2024 in Kano engaged manufacturers on private partnerships for the implementation of the recently launched National Clean Cooking Policy. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) had, in May, 2024, approved the long- awaited National Clean Cooking Policy, which seeks to expand access to clean cooking energy solutions to all households and institutions in Nigeria by 2030.
Salako had assured everyone that the ministry would carry out regional and state launching and distribution of the policy document as a way of raising adequate awareness. He added that the policy would only be effective when states and local governments domesticate the goals of the policy and ensure effective implementation.
Alongside the Hon. Commissioner for Environment, Kano State, Hon. Nasiru Garo, and other dignitaries; the Minister visited two leading private players in clean cook stove manufacturing in Nigeria; Burn Manufacturing, and Atmosfair Climate & Sustainability Limited to have a first hand interface on their processes and products. The Minister also commissioned the new factory of Atmosfair.
The Minister was hosted by the Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuff. The Governor who demonstrated a high level of knowledge and commitment to environmental sustainability assured the minister that Kano State is poised to become the capital of climate action in Nigeria.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the Minister to plant his 70th tree in 2024. The planting was carried out for the North West geopolitical zone in line with his 2024 Resolutions for “Greener Nigeria Campaign”. Salako had planted trees at Birabi Memorial Grammar School, a flagship secondary school in Ogoni land, Rivers State of the South South region in the Country as well as Junior secondary school, Maitama, in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, North Central. He had also planted trees at Ayetoro, Ogun State in the Southwest. The intends to plant the remaining 30 trees in the North east and South east of the Country in fulfillment of his 2024 green resolution which he made on January 1, 2024 to plant 100 trees before the end of 2024 while also encouraging Nigerians to do same.
