Mimiko Escapes Attack As Angry Workers Protest
The striking workers of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State almost inflicted bodily injuries on Prof. Olufemi Mimiko, the Vice Chancellor of the University when protesting against the non-payment of arrears of hazard allowance as captured in the FGN-Unions agreement of 2009,.
The workers, armed with dangerous weapons hauled stones at the building where the VC was having meeting with the representatives of the striking workers. The protesting workers held Mimiko hostage for several hours even after the meeting between him and the leadership of the workers had ended. 
It took the combined efforts of the security operatives and other leaders of the workers before Mimiko was shielded away. While the workers were being appealed to, the VC was “evacuated” in a commando like manner to save him from the rampaging protesters.
The three day protest according to Ayo Falade, the Chairman of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian University, SSANU, Akungba branch, is to compel the University management to do what is correct by paying the arrears being owed. He said, ” we won’t fold our arms and allow the University management continue with this injustice. This is a legitimate demand and no amount of blackmail, intimidation and harassment can stop us ”
NigerianEcho gathered that the workers had made representations to the Management of the University severally but nothing was done. The ruling Labour Party in Ondo State had accused the opposition party, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) of precipitating crisis on most of the campuses in State. But in a swift reaction, the Akeredolu Campaign Organisation (ACO) refuted the claim saying the party was only afraid of losing the forth coming election due to what it called “dwindling popularity”.
