Military Foil Boko Haram Explosion Attack in Maiduguri
Residents of Maiduguri, Borno state were luckily spared more tragedy on Friday as bombs went off in parts of the town, causing panic as the town was thought to be under attack again by the Boko Haram terrorist sect.
Upon investigation by the military, It was discovered that some explosives had been planted before dawn in a commercial area by suspected members of the terrorist group.
The spokesman for the youth vigilante group, Jubrin Gunda, said there was no need for panic as the explosion heard was diffused by the military to forestall any casualties.
“The attention of the security was called to a strange package dropped at the busy Custom area of the town this morning. The people of the area woke up to see the strange object and immediately called the attention of the military, who moved to the place to discover that it was an explosive device.
“They went to the area and diffuse the bomb at about 10.45am.”
Security has been heightened in the town while investigation continues, with thorough checks being conducted on vehicles on all major roads in the town.
