Militants Take Hostages at Iraqi University

Sharing is caring!

Police in Iraq say gunmen have stormed a university west of Baghdad and are holding dozens of students hostage.

Authorities say the attack took place Saturday at Anbar University in Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province.

Police say the gunmen killed university guards who tried to stop the attackers at a gate, then stormed into the facility.

Security forces have sealed off the area.

There has been no claim of responsibility, although the militant group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has carried out numerous attacks in the past several months.
