Michael Dawson joins Hull City
Hull City have signed Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson for an undisclosed fee.
The 30-year-old signed a three-year deal with Hull to become the third player to join from Spurs in the past year after Jake Livermore and Tom Huddlestone. He is also Steve Bruce’s sixth signing in this summer’s transfer window after Tom Ince, Livermore, Robert Snodgrass, Andrew Robertson and Harry Maguire.
He joined Tottenham Hotspur from Nottingham Forest in January 2005, made 236 appearances in the Premier League, and scored seven goals, helping Spurs to finish top four twice. He was made club captain in 2012.
Dawson will wear the No 21 shirt at the KC Stadium and feature in Hull City’s Premier League fixture, away at Aston Villa on Sunday.
“I’m just excited about getting started here now,” Dawson told Hull City’s website. “The whole football club made it an attractive move to me – the manager, the squad of players, the fans. I feel ready and raring to go.
“Leaving Tottenham was always going to be hard for me, but the chances to play there were going to be less and so a move to Hull City represented a great opportunity for me.
“Now my aim is to help Hull City to do as well as possible in the Premier League, and hopefully in the Europa League as well. It’s going to be a different type of challenge here. The season this club had last year was incredible, getting to the FA Cup Final and retaining their place in the Premier League. We have to build on that and look forward to the season ahead.”
