Men beat women in obtaining voter cards in FCT

Mrs Ndidi Okafor, Director of Voter Education in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in FCT, says more men registered than women in the just concluded Continuous Voter Registration Exercise.
According to Okafor in an interview with NAN on Saturday in Abuja, 82,440 new voters registered in the FCT during the exercise and that out of the total number registered, 44,788 were males while 37, 652were females.
Okafor noted that the gender difference was new because the women were always higher than males in past exercises.
She said that voter education was widely carried out in the FCT before the registration exercise, adding that a voter education desk was situated everywhere to sensitise the people on the need to register.
Okafor said that campaign teams were also established in Churches, Mosques and the 62 registration areas, to create awareness within the FCT.
She also said that strategies were being put in place to ensure that more persons cast votes during the local government elections slated for March 19.
