Marin Cilic Wins First US Open Title
Marin Cilic crushed Kei Nishikori 6-3 , 6-3 , 6-3 to win the U.S. Open on Monday for his first grand slam title.
Although both players were playing in a grand slam final for the first time, Croatia’s Cilic seemed to know just the right way to overpower his Japanese opponent like he did with Roger Federer in the semi-finals.
The 25-year-old is the third man outside Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray to win a major since 2005.
Nishikori, who defeated world No. 1 Djokovic in the semifinals, failed in his bid to become the first in men’s grand slam singles.
