Many Injured In Abeokuta As APC Thugs Unleashed Terror on Hapless Citizens

Hell was let loose on Thursday in Abeokuta the Capital of Ogun State, as members of the All Progressive Congress, APC and other innocent citizens were seriously beaten and injured in an attack by another faction of the Political party.

The bloody attack which left many injured erupted in the morning around 10:00 am, on Abiola way, Leme area of Abeokuta where APC secretariat is located. Members of the party were waiting patiently for the inauguration and the first sitting of the State Harmonizing Committee of the APC.

The thugs, led by the State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Union, NURT, Akeem Amosun, aka Jango and other people belived to be loyal to the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, stormed the APC Secretariat beating everyone in sight including innocent citizens.

The rampaging thugs smashed cameras belonging to the correspondents of Galaxy Television, Kunle Ojo and MITV’s Taofeek Lawal.

They also snatched blackberry phones belonging to the correspondent of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria/Paramount FM, Mrs. Modupe Sobukola while other journalists, including the State Correspondent of the Tribune, Olayinka Olukoya, were manhandled with the aid of members of the “Operation Mesa” consisting soldiers and policemen, an indication that the State powers were used against the people they were meant to protect.

Sources informed NigerianEcho that security agencies held the affected journalists while the thugs molested them and smashed their cameras as well as blackberry phones.

Scores of residents of the area were also seriously injured by the thugs, who attacked any member of the community in sight.

Several cars at a dealer’s shop near the APC state secretariat were vandalised by the thugs, who also capitalised on the commotion to dispossess residents of their valuables and other personal effects.

The members of the state Harmonisation Committee, led by Senator Gbenga Kaka, who addressed newsmen at the Iwe Irohin Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists accused Governor Amosun of using state machineries to intimidate his perceived, real and imaginary opponents.
