Manchester Names A Road After Sir Alex Ferguson
that allows a street near Old Trafford to be named after him.At the ceremony,unveiling the new sign in front of family, friends, fans and media, Ferguson said, “It’s a privilege and honour to have a road named after me. You don’t expect these things in life,It encapsulates probably the last 26 years – coming to the great club, the history of it. It’s been an incredible journey for me, ending today for me to unveil this road sign: Sir Alex Ferguson Way.”
Ferguson joins fellow countryman, Sir Matt Busby, former Manchester United coach from 1945–1969 and 1970-1971 in having a Street named in his honour.
Sir Alex Ferguson Way was formerly Water’s Reach road,and heads south towards Old Trafford, just as Warwick Road North became Sir Matt Busby Way in 1993.
“I’d like to thank Manchester United for inviting me down here, 26 years ago. It was a fantastic elevation in my life and a challenge that I accepted. And we are where we are now,” Ferguson said.
“It’s a great, great football club. You, the supporters, have enjoyed it. And I still think that a lot of our young fans don’t remember that there were bad days. Dealing with bad days is what we’re good at. This club will always go on.”
Sir Alex Ferguson served as Manchester United’s coach from 1986-2013,won 38 trophies, including 13 Premier League and two UEFA Champions League titles and is regarded as one of the most admired and respected managers in the history of football.
