Man Arrested For Posting “Negative ” Comments About Governor Amosun on Facebook
Wasiu Ogunnoiki, a 31 year old man was on Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Sagamu, for allegedly posting negative remarks on Social media about the Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun.
Ogunnoiki, who only posted on his Facebook page that “Governor Ibikunle Amosun demolished houses in the state without compensating affected property owners ” was arraigned on a two count charge, according to the charge sheet.
Ogunnoiki a commercial motorcyclist in Sagamu, was further accused of inciting people of the state against the Amosun led administration.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and Chief Magistrate Ojo granted him bail in the sum of N400,000, with two sureties in like sum. The matter has been adjourned till December 5th.
It would be recalled that Ibikunle Amosun had in time past displayed same level of pettiness in his way of handling perceived opposition both within and outside his party, an attitude that has become a part of him even before being elected governor.
In the build-up to the 2003 elections Mr. Ibikunle Amosun ran on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ogun Central Senatorial District. It is on record that the convoy of the then Governor Segun Osoba (his fellow Egba Kinsman) was pelleted with Pure water satchets during campaign rallies in Abeokuta by supporters of Mr. Ibikunle Amosun, ostensibly at his instruction.
In 2007, the people of Aiyepe, Omu, Ososa in Odogbolu Local Government and Ijebu-Ode (Itantebo and Italapo) respectively also have their own stories to tell about the violent disposition of Senator Ibkunle Amosun with various accounts of wanton destruction of properties and attacks on persons perceived to be real and imaginary enemies during his campaign rallies in those areas.
Again, records confirmed that Senator Ibikunle Amosun fired gunshots into the air, at Ipokia, Ipokia Local Government as well as Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government rallies. There were violent attacks on people in a bid to scare them away from scrambling for empowerment items he brought for the people.
Senator Ibikunle Amosun’s extended same hand of “fellowship” to a serving House of Reps member Hon. Iziaq Abiodun Akinlade in 2012 when Amosun’s Commissioners and their thugs attempted to humiliate Akinlade for allegedly snubing the governor at the Oroona day celebration held in Ilaro.
Same scenario replayed itself at Itori where members of his party loyal to former governor Olusegun Osoba were gathered for a meeting, Amosun’s supporters unleashed mayhem on them, leaving many injured and some lives were lost.
Students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, were about three weeks ago, beaten to a pop right inside the governor’s office arcade for staging a protest against the government’s decision on tuition fee.
A community leader in Ago Iwoye, Prince Adewale Onasanya, speaking with NigerianEcho condemned the spate of attacks on the perceived “enemies ” of the Governor.
“Let me state that there had never been political violence in Ogun State except the one sponsored by the Chief Promoter Amosun, who unfortunately is sitting over the affairs of our dear State as the Executive Governor. One can only wonder why and how Ogun State got to this sorry pass.”
