Man, 35, charged with N1.2m car fraud in Ogun
A 35-year-old,Emmanuel Chukwu, who allegedly defrauded a man of N1.2 million on the pretext of helping him to buy a jeep, was on Tuesday arraigned in Sango-Ota, Ogun.
The accused, who resides at No.23, Onipinla St., Iyana-Iyesi, in Ota, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretences at an Ota Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecution said the accused allegedly collected N1.2 million from a man, Christian Ekeh, under the pretext of assisting him to buy a Nissan Pathfinder jeep.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, the accused committed the offences on March 24 at Oando Area, Ijoko Road,Ota.
“The accused collected N1.2 million with a promise of purchasing a Nissan Pathfinder jeep but failed to deliver the vehicle.’’
The offences contravened Sections 319 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Abimbola, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties must be owners of developed landed property while the title document should be submitted to the court for verification.
In addition, the sureties should produce one year tax clearance.
The magistrate adjourned the case till Nov. 10 for hearing.(NAN)
