MainOne Constructs a $25Mn Data Centre In Lagos.

West Africa’s leading open access submarine cable company, MainOne Company Nigeria Limited has begun the construction of its $25 million Tier-III Data Centre in Lagos which is to be completed by mid 2014.

The plan for the new data centre which was unveiled at the company’s Cable Landing Station (CLS) in the Lekki Peninsula, Lagos on Wednesday MainOne1would be the largest of its kind in West Africa at 1,500 square metres with a 600 rack capacity.

MainOne had recently signed a $100 million refinancing facility deal with Skye Bank Plc, Standard Chartered Bank Limited, First Bank of Nigeria Limited and First City Monument Bank Plc to drive the growth plans of the company. It intends to use the capital to fund its infrastructure expansion which would enable Nigeria and other countries in West Africa to continue to grow their economies at a faster pace.

Speaking on the project, Ms. Funke Opeke, CEO, MainOne said: “Internet penetration has been a huge issue in Nigeria especially to the hinterlands. The new Data Centre will leverage on MainOne’s network which is peered with leading operators and internet exchanges worldwide to provide global reach to our customers across all locations.”

She believes the new data center will also pave the way for the establishment of additional data centres and points of presence across Nigeria and other West African nations.

While Corroborating Opeke’s assertion, Mainone’s Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Mr. Folu Aderibigbe, added that the project was a further proof of MainOne’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure within its primary markets.

“The new MainOne Data Centre is expected to transform West Africa into a digital economy. The project will also aid reduction of information technology costs and risks while enhancing business efficiency and profitability,” he said.

Established in 2010, MainOne provides wholesale broadband, wholesale bandwidth telecommunications services and land cables to telecom operators and Internet service providers in Nigeria, Accra and Lome
