The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has berated the Peoples Democratic Party over its advice to the ruling party to shun interference during the selection of the next Speaker for the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The APC released a statement via its Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe, warning the PDP to observe caution in its utterances as the party does not intend to interfere with the legislature.

Igbokwe said, “The PDP lacks the pedigree and the moral latitude to give such a piece of advice. The House will choose its own leaders without external interference. The PDP will not tell an APC-dominated Assembly who to pick as Speaker and principal officers.

“It is rather unfortunate that a party that has just suffered a devastating electoral defeat is not planning how to rebuild its crumbled empire. The leaders, as loyal party members and like every party member, have the right to show interest in who steers the affairs of the House.

“The PDP won’t pick the leaders because it is not their party. It is like telling the owner of a house not to show interest in what goes on in there. The PDP must stop acting like an interloper and mind its own business.”

Igbokwe said Lagos has enjoyed executive and legislative harmony since the enthronement of democracy in 1999 and that the new dispensation will not be an exception.
