The Kwara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress has expressed confidence that President Goodluck Jonathan will not be re-elected in February’s presidential election as he failed to fulfill the promises he made to the people of the State during his campaign in 2011.

The party chapter’s Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, in a statement urged the people to support and vote General Muhammadu Buhari because he has the competence, credibility, capacity and capability to lead Nigeria in the path of sustainable peace and development.

The statement said: “Quite unfortunate is the fact that the catalogue of promises President Goodluck Jonathan made to the people of Kwara State on the 22nd of February, 2011 absolutely remain as promises in 2015.

“President Jonathan pledged that the irrigation project in Shonga would be completed soon to boost commercial farming activities; promised to end discrimination along ethnic and religious lines; tackle poverty; agricultural transformation of Kwara State; rehabilitation of the nation’s railway system; rehabilitation of the Ilorin-Mokwa road; complete Lagos to Jebba rail project; deliver stable, constant supply of electricity; ensure that Nigerians do not use generators more than two times in a week; create jobs; start two developmental projects in Kwara State; revitalize ailing industries and grant loans to farmers.

“It should be noted that after four years, none of these promises has been fulfilled by President Jonathan. We have not assessed Mr President by international best practices but by his record of campaign promises. The vast majority of Kwarans voted for President Jonathan in 2011 because they desire the fulfilment of the promises Mr President made. What has Mr President given Kwarans in returns? Nothing.

“Mr President is the architect of his own failure in Kwara State. Gen Buhari will not only floor President Jonathan in this year’s presidential election but Mr President should also forget about securing 25% of the total votes in Kwara State.

“We challenge President Jonathan to tell Nigerians why he has failed to fulfill his promises to the people of Kwara State despite the huge resources at his disposal? What have Kwarans done to deserve total neglect from the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration? Since it is glaring that Mr President has a catalogue of unfulfilled promises in Kwara State and other states of the nation, Mr President should tell Nigerians why he should not be voted out of power on the 14th of February?

“Meanwhile, we appeal to President Goodluck Jonathan to pay up the over N4billion the Kwara State government has used to execute and rehabilitate Ilesha-Baruba-Chikanda international border road and Federal road projects across the state.

“It quite commendable that despite the failure of the federal government to pay up its indebtedness to Kwara State government and the dwindling federal allocation, the administration of the performing Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, for the benefits of the good people of Kwara State, has embarked on the construction of other federal roads which will cost about N10billion upon completion.”
