KUDOS TO ECOWAS ON BURKINA FASO
The Committee for the Protection of Peoples Mandate (CPPM) wholeheartedly congratulates the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) ably led by Nigeria, the African Union (AU), European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) for the civil and prompt resolution of the constitutional crisis in Burkina Faso occasioned by the unconstitutional and undemocratic military takeover of power by the Presidential Guards.
We are indeed glad about the way and manner of the resolution of the crisis by ECOWAS, which goes a long way to do justice to democracy and the image of the African continent and has resulted in the return to power of the transitional government, with its attendant effect of restoration of constitutionalism, law and order.
We give a big kudos to the people of Burkina Faso for remaining steadfast, resolute and keeping faith with democracy by embarking on civil disobedience in rejecting the military putsch and demanding a return to power of the illegally overthrown transitional government, which eventually came to pass and is a big lesson to other African countries, that when the people say No, nobody, can say Yes.
As the transitional government returns to power, we are glad to learn that the indisciplined and democracy violating presidential guards who masterminded the military putsch have been disbanded because of their threat to national security.
We call on the transitional government to ensure that the military coupists whose unconstitutional overthrow of a legitimate transitional government led to a breakdown of law and order, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives are brought to justice so as to serve as a deterrent to others.
Thanks.
Yours Sincerely,
Signed.
Nelson Ekujumi,
Executive Chairman.
