Keshi signs New N6 Million Contract as Super Eagles’ Coach
Stephen Keshi has agreed to sign a N6million contract with the Nigeria Football Federation and stay on as the Super Eagles head coach as soon as the NFF crisis comes to an end.
The agreement was announced by Sports Minister and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Tamuno Danagogo, in Abuja on Thursday.
He also revealed the current crisis affecting the NFF caused delays in Keshi’s contract and that the Aminu Maigari-led administration did not want to rehire Stephen Keshi.
He said: “We all know that Keshi’s contract expired after the World Cup and we were trying to see whether they would negotiate with him, then Maigari was suspended.
“Umeh came in and reopened talks with him. They said they cannot pay. But we have a match on September 6 so I had to intervene. I asked Keshi if he desired to handle the team again and he said yes. I then asked him to come, assuring him that I would take care of what it takes for him to handle the team for the two matches we have in September after which we can talk about the contract.”
He also said that the difference between Keshi’s new pay and his demand was just a million naira and will not be a challenge for the NSC.
Keshi’s contract as the head coach of the Super Eagles expired immediately after the Brazil 2014 World Cup. He will now continue his job and hope to keep building the team as they face Congo in the September 6 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Calabar.
