Kano orders trade unions to re-register
Kano State Government on Thursday directed all trade unions in the state to re-register in conformity with the new Trade Association Act.
The Commissioner for Commerce, Mines and Tourism, Dr Danburam Nuhu, gave the directive in Kano when he received members of Agricultural Produce and Suppliers Development Association in his office.
Nuhu explained that the new law provided certain guidelines that would make the conduct of the unions and associations better.
He said this was why the Act made fresh registration mandatory.
The commissioner warned that any association that failed to comply would be considered illegal.
Responding, the Chairman of the association, Auwal Muhammad said they came to brief the commissioner on their activities and to solicit government’s support.
Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso signed the Bill into law in February.
