Judgment on council polls vindicates us, says Oyo APC
The All Progressive Congress (APC), Oyo State chapter, has said that the recent judgment of an Oyo State High Court which dismissed the petition of the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the state government over the non-conduct of local government elections had vindicated its stand over the years.
In a release issued by the Interim Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Hon. Dauda Kolawole, the party upbraided the opposition in the state for playing to the gallery over the matter in the last two and half years of the APC-led government in the state.
While giving judgment in a suit filed by the PDP with number 1/611/2012, Justice Muktar Ladi Abimbola of Court 2, Ibadan in a 57-page ruling had noted that the current atmosphere in the state did not warrant the conduct of local government election because of the pending case relating to the determination of the composition of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) at the Appeal Court.
“The judgment has confirmed the APC and the state government’s stand on this matter. On several occasions, the APC had made it known to the opposition parties in the state which comprise both the PDP and Accord Party that they are no match for the APC in any election held in the state but because the Abiola Ajimobi government is a law-abiding government, it would not take any action that will compromise the integrity of the judiciary,” the statement said.
While urging the PDP and Accord Party to continue what it called their “phantom politicking” which it said is aimed at hoodwinking the people to believe that the opposition parties were more masses-friendly than the APC, the party said that in the history of the state, no government had performed as excellently as the Ajimobi government.
The APC said the performance of its government in the state was what the party banked upon to come back to power in 2015 and to win any election conducted in the state.
“From Chief Rashidi Ladoja to any of the politicians in the PDP, what the APC government has that many of them do not possess is performance. In two and half years, we have changed the face of governance in Oyo State, through massive infrastructural projects and we have brought sanity to the system of governance which used to be in the hands of leaders who did not understand the rudiments of governance. These, among other, are what we bank upon to continue to come tops in any election in Oyo State,” said the APC.
While urging the opposition in the state to stop their campaign of calumny against the party-led government, the APC said that the people of the state had transcended the Molete politics of old where the electorate followed politicians unquestionably, stating that the people were now more likely to ask anyone who seeks their votes developmental questions.
“The electorate will ask questions on past and present performance; they will ask kingpins of violence of the past who shed the blood of their people and now want to come back to office why they think they merit to come back to Agodi Government House; they will ask those whose lack of mental depth to properly govern led Oyo State to be at the rung of the ladder for several years, leading to the state being perceived as a state of motor park drivers and under-developed people, why they hated our state that much and why Ajimobi, who has changed the face of the state, should not come back to office,” said the APC.
