The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has debunked media reports that Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, demanded for the resignation of CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. Ugochukwu Okoroafor, Director of Communication of CBN made this known on Monday. Speaking on Ray Power Radio’s “fact file”, Okoroafor who called in from Abuja said there was nothing like that. He added that the media was being sensational on the matter as the Governor of CBN’s tenure ends in June and he intends to see it through.

There has been speculation that President Jonathan asked Lamido to resign following controversies surrounding a letter written by former to the latter on alleged non-remittance of money from the proceeds of crude oil by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC. ‎The letter which became an embarrassment to the economic team of Jonathan’s administration was seen by many as “political”. Even though both Finance Ministry and NNPC have come to say there was no money missing, the issues generated by the letter have refused to go.
