JOHESU Suspends 2-Month-Old Strike
The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has announced the suspension of its nationwide strike which commenced on Wednesday, November 12, 2014.
The National Chairman of the union, Ayuba Wabba, made this declaration on Monday while also directing all members of the union to resume work immediately.
The union had embarked on the strike to protest the Federal government’s refusal to implement the promotions and welfare packages promised to workers.
They also alleged the lack of payment of arrears of specialist allowance to qualified hospital based professionals with effect from January 1, 2010, in line with the National Industrial Court of Nigeria’s ruling and non-release of harmonized scheme of service for nurses and midwives, as part of the reasons for the strike.
Activities in several hospitals have been paralysed as all health workers except medical doctors refused to report to work since the strike commenced in November last year.
