FG Reveals Plan For Psychological Trauma Victims

Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, has constituted a ministerial committee for the emotional and psychological management of victims of all recent hazards, bombings, and kidnappings.

This was as the Federal Government expressed its concern for the current security challenges in the country and its realisation of the emotional and psychological trauma that it has caused to its victims.

A statement signed by the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, said that the committee was made up of psychiatrists and clinical psychologists from 40 federal tertiary health institutions.

Others in the committee are traditional leaders, faith-based organisations, National Emergency Management Agency, federal ministries of Education, Women Affairs, Youth and Sports and non-governmental organisations working in the health sector.

The assignment of the committee among others includes training of healthcare workers in psychological first aid, basic grief counselling and how to recognise symptoms of psychological instability.
