INEC Releases Election Results In 18 States And FCT

The electoral commission in Nigeria has released the results of eighteen states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as it begins the collation and announcement of the presidential election’s results on Monday.

At the collation centre in Abuja, the nation’s capital, Residence Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the commission read out the results from the states they covered.

Before the officials began the announcement of results, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, listed 19 specific steps in the collation procedure.

He also read out the results declaration format.

“State collation office shall introduce himself and state where he worked as collation officer, the number of local government areas in the state and the number of political parties that contested in the election,” he said.

After the INEC chairman read out the format of the declaration, the Residence Electoral Commissioners proceeded with the announcement of the results of the states one after another.

So far, results for Ekiti, Ogun, Enugu, Kogi, Osun, Nasarawa, Ondo and Oyo State were announced by the RECs. The results of the FCT election were also announced.
