INEC begins distribution of Permanent Voters’ cards on May 23 in Enugu

Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Wednesday announced it would commence distribution of Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVC, between May 23 and 25 in Enugu State.
Enugu Resident Electoral Commissioner, Lawrence Azubuike, who made this known when he briefed journalists in Enugu, said the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, would hold from May 28 to June 1.
According to Azubuike the CVR was not a fresh registration but meant for people who turned 18 years after 2010/2011 registration or those who did not register during the exercise.
“We are aware of the tendency of those who have lost their cards and those who have relocated since the last registration will like to register again.
“The commission has put in place mechanisms both for the replacement of lost cards and transfer of registration upon application by affected persons.
“It is important that people should seek help and make enquiries at any INEC office nearest to them on how to go about it.
He said further that any fresh registration will amount to double registration.
Enugu State according to the INEC commissioner was one of the 10 states in the first phase for the exercise in the country.
He disclosed that 621 polling units in the state and over one million eligible voters were targeted for registration in the state, adding the commission had made adequate provision for electronic machines and that what it had now was much better than the previous exercise.
Mr Azubuike pleaded with the media to assist the commission in sensitising the public and to embark on voter education nation wide.
