IGP Urges Police Chiefs to Evolve Intelligence Gathering Which Suits Their Locality

Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on Thursday asked police chiefs to evolve new intelligence gathering and crime-fighting techniques and methodologies customised to suit their respective local challenges.
Alhaji Abubakar stated this in a statement issued on his behalf by the police spokesperson, ACP Frank Mba after an emergency meeting held by the IGP and Police chiefs across the country to devise strategies to contain the rising insecurity in the country.
At the meeting held at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, according to the statement, assessment of the overall security situation in the country, particularly the incessant terror attacks, herdsmen/farmers clashes in some parts of the country as well as other forms of crimes including kidnappings, trans-border banditry, and the proliferation of arms and ammunition was done.
The statement stated that, IGP Abubakar charged the senior officers to improve on their surveillance network and to engage in high police visibility across the country and to commence early preparations for the 2015 general elections by conducting adequate threat analysis and intensifying capacity building for electoral policing best practices.
“The IG reminded the Police top brass of the immense trust and confidence reposed in them by the public and charged them to bring their professionalism, skills and experience to bear in the discharge of this onerous but statutory mandate of solving crimes, maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property and ridding the country of terror, amongst others,” the statement added.
The statement reiterated that the country was passing through one of its most trying moments as a nation and therefore demanded of police officers, utmost loyalty and commitment to duty.
The police boss in the statement, assured the citizenry of the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to their well being, noting that the Security Forces will continually do their best towards eliminating all threats to internal security of the nation.
