I Can Account For All The Security Votes For My 8 Years In Office- Ogun Ex-Gov Daniel

The erstwhile governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has said that if called upon he would account for all the security votes he got during his stay as the ‘Chief Security Officer’ of the gateway state.

Daniel was speaking on the theme, “security vote in Nigeria, whose Security and at what Cost?”, at a lecture organised by the institute of Directors of Nigeria, in Lagos.

He said the usage of the security vote is at the discretion of the state’s helmsman who must devise means of tackling insecurity depending on the peculiarity of the state.

Daniel while stressing that unemployment was a major challenge to security, pointed out that his administration under the Ogun state graduate scheme doled out 102 million naira between 2006 and 2011 where 25,000 resident unemployed graduates benefited.

He said, “if there was any major threat to security, it was the insecurity caused by lack of regular supply of electricity. That was why my administration secured for Ogun State, a licence to distribute generated electricity. A total number of 650 transformers which were bought by our administration were fully energised and made available to communities in Ogun state between August 2003 and April 2010”.

Daniel added that the battle against insecurity can not be won by just buying armoured personnel carriers ( APCs), but in trying to provide massive employment for the citizenry.

Meanwhile, an Ogun State High court has ordered the Economic and financial crime commission (EFCC) to release the international passport of Daniel for him to be able to travel out of the Country to seek medical attention.
