House of Reps Member Denies Receiving Up to N25 Million Monthly
A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Jimoh Aremu Olaifa , has refuted the claim in the media (not NigerianEcho) of the outrageous salaries and emoluments of the Federal lawmakers saying no lawmaker earns up to N10million.
Olaifa who is representing Egbado North/Imeko Afon Federal Constituency, said Senators and members of the House of Representatives do not earn N36m or N25m as reported in the media.
Hon. Olaifa made this known at the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, during the graduation ceremony of women and youth who had undergone training in vocational skills. Over 400 youth and women from Ogun West Senatorial District were trained in vocational skills between 24th and 25th of November, 2020. Olaifa who facilitated the training charged the beneficiaries to take the advantage of the skill acquisition to better their lives.
“Nobody in the House or Senate collects as much as either N25million or N36million as being speculated. No Federal lawmaker earns up to N25million or N36million, including the allowances. I stand to be challenged, nobody collects N10 million, including both salary and allowances”, Olaifa said.
Olaifa who was elected on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) added that the report which suggested Nigerian lawmakers are the highest paid in the World is an attempt to set the people against them. He said nothing could be farther from the truth.
