“HIGH HOPES ON 2024 LAGOS BUDGET AS CSOs APPLAUDS GOVERNOR SANWOOLU”
Coalition of Civil Society Organisations has urged Governor Babajide SanwoOlu to prioritize the provision of infrastructural facilities requisite for effective delivery on the Lagos State Developmental template as it applauds the Governor’s signing of the N2.267 Trillion, 2024 Appropriation Bill of Lagos State into law.
The Coalition noted that the submission of the budget was done by the Governor appropriately and on time which allows for the seamless passage of Hon. Mudashiru Obasa led Lagos State House of Assembly, as a vintage demonstration of the harmony, unity of purpose that exist between the two critical arms of government, the executives and legislature. The Assembly discharge its onerous legislative duties with expeditious considerations and passage of the budget with all focus and passion on creating convivial atmosphere for the Government to deliver on its promises to the good people of Lagos State. It is trite to state as the first budgetary year after the last general elections, signalling the commencement of the second term of Governor SanwoOlu in power, all hands, tools and kits are now on board for the Government to transform the yearnings and aspirations of Lagosians into concrete realities.
The N2.267 Trillion “Budget of Renewal” has 58% appropriated for capital expenditure while 42% is for recurrent spending. It prioritizes infrastructure, environment, education and technology with increased allocation to security and public safety. This would no doubt, boost the State’s as a premium investment destination port in the sub region if not Africa.
We note with commendation that Lagos as a mega city is an ever expansive State, with a rather high population growth rate which calls for visionary leadership that must be permanently on its toes to keep pace with the developmental needs and Governor SanwoOlu readily captures this essence in his 2024 budget. Provision of standard infrastructure and security of lives and properties are vital desideratum for any society to become a global investment haven. The priorities given to capital project in this budget clearly shows the focus of Governor Babajide SanwoOlu in this direction.
This year’s budget is totally in sync with the THEMES Agenda of the State Government to transform lives and business which crucial to the welfare and wellbeing of Lagos citizens across board. The Mega-City Developmental Template can only be guaranteed when driven by two critical factors, the Citizens and effective Security Infrastructure. It is heart-warming to note that the budget is conceptualised, passed and signed into law with vital ingredients in considerations.
As veritable civic watchdogs, we assured Governor SanwoOla of our vigilant, social partnership to ensure diligent execution of the budget of renewal. It is our duties to push for transparency and accountability in the faithful implementation of the budget, we shall dare not falter. Our focus, in following through this budget with the SanwoOlu” administration shall beam searchlight on improved road network, healthcare delivery, accessible education, and, energy infrastructural architecture necessary for the industrial viability and sustainability of the State.
Let us state unequivocally, that we join all Lagosians to congratulate Governor SanwoOlu on the Supreme Court validation of his electoral victory in the last gubernatorial polls, it is however, time to squarely face the business of governance and altruistic statesmanship. We shall be on ground to support all process aimed at actualising the goals of sustaining the status of making Lagos, the enviable first among equals in Nigeria.
