Heavy traffic on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway as truck loaded with beer crashes

Scavengers on Sunday night took over the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway stealing bottles of Goldberg Lager Beer from a truck which fell across the road.
NigerianEcho reporter who was on the road at the time of the incident saw the truck, fully loaded with the Nigerian Breweries Plc, products fell on the median of the express at the old Toll Gate of Lagos-Abeokuta road.
The accident, according to some witnesses, happened at about 8pm when the brake of the truck failed and resulted to heavy traffic jam for motorists going to Lagos from Sango-Otta axis of Ogun State.
A witnessed, Femi Oloyede, told NigerianEcho, “I was in one of the vehicles behind the truck coming from Sango and suddenly we just noticed the truck swerved off the road and it fell on the road meridian and the contents in the truck were seen discharging on the road”.
At the scene of the incident, it was a free day for scavengers. Men, youths especially, touts carrying cartoons of Goldberg Lager beer which the truck was carrying. Some were seen emptying the bottles at will. Those who can not carry cartoon were using Ghana must go bags to take their shares of the beer.
Officials of the Federal Roads Safety Commission, FRSC had hectic time to control the gridlock traffic which the accident caused.
The registration number of the truck has been removed by the FRSC officials by time NigerianEcho reporter arrived at the scene.
