Hausa – Fulani Youths Attack Lagos State University, Repelled by Students
Hausa – Fulani youths on Monday attacked the Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo campus, along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, and destroyed vehicles packed in front of the school.
The attack occurred after the Hausa-Fulani youths who are predominantly commercial motorcyclists attacked members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, at Iyana-Iba bus stop which is a walking distance from the Campus.
Curiously, soldiers in an ‘OP Mesa’ branded vehicle which was stationed in front of the University gate drove away a few minutes before the attack.
The Soldiers returned after students of the University mobilized themselves in order to repel the impending attack.
The activities of NURTW agberos have continued to give Lagos residents, okada riders, tricycle, and bus drivers unnecessary headaches. As it seems, these agberos have gained political ground in the state as the Lagos state government seem not to know how to send them packing. Presently, a video is making waves on social media. This video shows the moment some Okada riders and NURTW sponsored agberos engaged in a violent fight in the Iyana Oba area of Lagos state today. As is observed from the video, the okada riders refused to give in to the fresh demands of the NURTW agberos who are demanding that they make more payment to them. The okada riders however refused to pay more taxes to them and a fight ensued.
According to eyewitnesses, this fight didn’t just start today, they have been fighting for months now over the recent tax the agberos are trying to force on the okada riders.
At the time of filing this report, the police have however restored normalcy in Iyana Oba.
The video has however attracted much attention so far as many people are reacting to it. The majority thinks that this is indeed wrong. They however urged the Lagos state government to scrap NURTW and also ban thuggery (Agbero) in the state.
