Gunmen kill 6, burn churches, homes in fresh Plateau violence

Gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday attacked Gako and Tanjol communities in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing at least six people.
Two churches were also burnt in the attack which took place at about 1:00 a.m.
Residents of the area say apart from the six civilians killed, five uniformed security officials, believed to be members of the Special Task Force, STF, were also killed.
Police spokesperson in the state, ASP Dominic Esin, while reacting to the incident said only six civilians died and five others injured and refused to say anything about the security agents allegedly killed in the attack.
“On June 11 at about 1 a.m., unknown gunmen invaded two villages of Gako and Tanjol, shooting sporadically and in the process killing 6 persons, and injuring 5 others.
“The injured persons where rushed to the Vom Christian Hospital.” The PPRO Said, adding, “two churches were burnt by the attackers.”
He said security officials have been deployed to the affected area.
“Normalcy has been restored in the attacked areas and members of the public are advised to go about their lawful business and report any unscrupulous elements to the security agencies.
“Investigation is ongoing and manhunt for the felons has intensified.”
As at the time of filling this report no official statement has been issued by the Military.
