Gunmen kill 10, burn 20 houses in Taraba

Taraba Police Command has confirmed that gunmen on Tuesday killed 10 people in Jibu Village in Wukari Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson, Joseph Kwaji, told journalists in Jalingo that the suspected assailants also burnt more than 20 houses.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that at about 5 a.m. Tuesady, a group of Jukun youth stormed Jibu village, opened fire at the inhabitants and killed 10 people,” he said.

According to the police spokesperson, the suspected gunmen killed every one they come in contact with in the area irrespective of the person’s ethnicity and region, including Jukuns.

“I can also confirm to you that 15 people are badly injured and about 20 houses were set ablaze,” he said.

Supol Kwaji, however, said that a joint patrol of Mobile police and military had been deployed to intensify security in the area.

He therefore, appealed to people in the area to stay calm, saying security personnel were on top of the situation.
He assured members of the community that the perpetrators of the crime would be brought to book.

Tuesday’s Taraba killing according to News Agency of Nigeria, NAN occurs less than four days after over 100 people were killed by gunmen in Zamfara State. Scores more were killed in various attacks in Nasarawa, Benue, and Kaduna.

The House of Representatives on Tuesday summoned the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, and the Chief of Defence Staff over the worsening security situation across the country.
