Gunmen attack Benue college, 5 students hospitalised

Six armed men have reportedly attacked students of College of Advanced and Professional Studies, CAPS, Markudi, Benue State early hours of yesterday Less than two weeks after hoodlums attacked and allegedly raped some female students of Benue State University, BSU, Makurdi.

Sole Administrator of the institution, Dr Tyotom Kerkugh who spoke to newsmen on phone said the hoodlums carted away computers, electronics and other valuables during the attack that left five students hospitalised.

According to him, the gang gained entrance into the hostel after disarming two of the security men guarding the school and tying them with rope.

Kerkugh said the students who were left with no option immediately contacted their male colleagues through phone and they promptly came to their aid while the hoodlums took to their heels with the properties.

The administrator debunked speculations that the students were raped, claiming that those that were hospitalised had been discharged, adding he had reported the matter to the police and the state commissioner for education, Dr Elizabeth Ugoh.

Although nobody has been arrested over the dastardly incident, the rector claimed it was the handiwork of some “bad boys” in the community.

The state Police Command spokesperson, Mr Daniel Ezeala, a Superintendent of Police, SP said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
