Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has promised to resuscitate and improve the two seaports in the state during his tenure.

Governor Wike was speaking with entrepreneurs and investors in the state at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Monday, said that his administration would revive the state’s economy and exploit the investment opportunities the seaport offers.

He said: “We are taking a visit to NPA soon to see how the sea port looks like now. We will do everything we can to see that the sea ports are revived. Instead of our people going to Lagos to bring in goods for Rivers people, it will now come to our ports in Rivers State.”

He also said his administration would tackle the issue of multiple taxation raised by the investors and entrepreneurs, stating the need for a unified tax system in the state, so as to hasten the economic development of the state.

“I will tell you that we will do everything we can to address it very soon; we will want to have an interactive session with the business community so that we can partner on these items that we think are important.

“The Rivers State Entrepreneurs and Investors Forum is expected to come up with a unified tax system in the state, which he believes will fast track the economic pace of the state.”

He promised to prioritise commerce and power and to appoint capable people in both industries.
